Your Success Model for 2013

The Successful Entrepreneur

Greetings Friends!

As we prepare to say goodbye to 2012, I think now is as good a time as any to look under the collective hoods of our businesses to see what might need fixing.  Some things you might want to consider as we wind down this year include, but aren’t limited to:

  • How much do you want to earn in 2013?
  • How many hours do you want to work each week?
  • How many weeks of vacation do you desire to have in 2013?
  • Who will you be working with/serving?
  • What does your niche need (this should be a top three need)?
  • What is the fastest, easiest way for you to solve the problems of your niche?

You may already have all of this figure out and if so, I’m happy for you!  Personally I hope to reduce my workload to 20 hours per week–or less.  I am interested in trimming the fat from the business models that no longer work for me–I’m only interested in helping my clients get what they need–no extra BS fillers/bonuses.  Does that sound like something that would work for you too?  Well, this exact business model is what  I will be covering in my free training this Wednesday.  You can sign up for the call in information here–the call information goes out Wednesday morning, so be sure you sign up now; I hope to see you on the call!

Rich Blessings!

Gender, Marketing & La La Land

The Successful Entrepreneur 2013

Greetings Friends!

I had the honor of chatting with a master marketer this morning and it was one of those conversations where you get off the phone feeling pumped!  We talked about my business and what I hoped to transform about it and a few things came up.  The first issue that came up is what is working now in this digital marketing age; this is an important topic for those of you who have business models or systems that come from people much higher up the business food chain than you.  Why?  Because if they are high enough up that they refer to having a team and you can’t afford a team, then what they do and what they teach you is probably very different.  You get that right?  Relating their tactics/business model to your own game is a risky gambit because they are no longer in the trenches.

It may also be that what they did back in the day and what works now aren’t the same.  Either way, you want to a) make sure you have a good business model for you and b) work with a business model that is right for current times.

So, I have a rather challenging question for you?  What is your business model and how well is it working for you?  I ask this question because we are just days from being done with 2012 and if you have big goals for yourself and you’re not currently seeing the results you need, it’s time to snap out of la la land or 2013 will probably end much the same as 2012.  Unfortunately this challenge is particularly hard for us women; we lower our prices because we love our clients and what we do; we don’t get the training we need when we need it and our businesses don’t thrive.  Most unfortunately, we don’t thrive.  So enough of all that!  Let’s create businesses in 2013 that make a difference in the lives of our clients and in the lives of our families and ourselves.

Some things to ask yourself:  what is my niche–do I even have a niche?  If you don’t have a niche you need to remedy that immediately; next, what are the top three needs of my niche and how can I help them meet their needs?  You might also ask, how balanced is my life–and you may be thinking, Dee, what does this have to do with business success?!  Well, that’s really simple, you won’t be in business for long if you’re killing yourself.  So, again, I ask you, are you able to work, play, vacation, exercise and spend time with those you love or are you buried under a list of never ending To-Do’s?  Yes, some sacrifice and persistence is necessary to get your business off the ground, but if you’ve got one of those crazy business models that has you running from pillar to post 24/7, you might want to make plans to get a better plan for 2013.

I’m having a training 28 November at 3:30 PM and I’ll be talking about all this and more, so save the date and get ready to rock your business in 2013;  you can sign up here.  You’ll also receive some free training, right away to get you ready to go.  So, sign up and then if you’re in America, get ready to relax a bit and enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday knowing you’ve got 2013 well in hand.  And if you’re not in America celebrating an annual turkey day, you can celebrate the end of useless business models and get ready to transform your life and your business!

Either way you have a winning scenario and that’s worth celebrating!

Rich Blessings!

How Not to Suck At Marketing

English: A business ideally is continually see...

English: A business ideally is continually seeking feedback from customers: are the products helpful? are their needs being met? Constructive criticism helps marketers adjust offerings to meet customer needs. Source of diagram: here (see public domain declaration at top). Greetings Friends!

On any given day I receive a plethora of emails offering me the latest greatest thing that’s going to “explode my business”.   The product offerings break down into two separate categories; they are either a system that someone has used to create a successful business or they are a drill down on a particular aspect of a business system (list building, how to launch a product, how to use YouTube videos for success).  If you’re in business and you don’t have a system you will run from one new product to the next trying to figure out why your business isn’t gaining momentum.  If you have a system, it should already have told you everything–soup to nuts, about how to run your business.  If you’re having a problem with list building, for example, please go to the material you have on building a list (from that program you invested in earlier) before you invest in yet another program.

Why do I say that?  Because the statistics in terms of how many people buy your products are challenging–it takes people as many as 10 exposures to your product or service  before a potential client will buy and then as few as 2% actually use the material.  This is true for both you and your potential clients; you won’t a) buy immediately or b) use what you’ve already purchased.  So if you have downloaded material or bought programs and failed to put them into action–use what you’ve got first! After all, perseverance is a part of the cycle of success.  There is no magic pill; there is, however, consistent action along a well laid out path–aka your system, that will get you results.  No system is capable of over coming inconsistent use.

What if you’re having problems with a particular segment of your system?  That’s not unusual; I’d look at how you’re approaching that segment.  I recently blogged about the insane things entrepreneurs do trying to meet the supposed needs of their market–including the need for a freebie.  You can read that blog piece here.  Having a freebie isn’t the problem–it’s having a cookie cutter approach to having a freebie–and it’s having a freebie without having an overall system that you’re working within.  Why are you creating the freebie?  Who is it for?  What does the freebie lead to?  Answer those questions first and then insure you’re answering a top three need for your niche; this will help you drill down in whatever portion of the system that’s giving you lackluster results and help you tweak what you’re doing.

In short, I think the problems people have with marketing stem from a) not having a good system and b) not working their system correctly or consistently.  If you know your system, your niche and your passions, you don’t become confused or overwhelmed.   Your tribe provides you with valuable feedback and you provide them with great products and services.  Best of all you get to have a life and a successful business.  If you didn’t hear my training on the things you may be doing that undermine your ability to successfully market your products and services, then you can check out my free training here.

Your business should run like a machine–smoothly and with no real questions day to day about what needs to be done.  If you feel you don’t have a system that is working for you–and you’re on a budget, I created something that will allow you to work independently to address your business challenges; you can learn more here.  If you’ve been in business for awhile and you feel you’d be better off with someone who can work with you one on one to diagnose your challenges and get you moving quickly, I recommend you sign up for a free coaching session.  I’m not going to waste your time with a bunch of free bonuses, just straight talk about what can get you over your hurdles and move you toward success…and you can sign up here.

If I had to  guess, I’d say you went into business to have more time and money freedom, but there’s a lot of information on the internet and you can not only drown in all the information–you can quickly become confused about what steps you need to do on a regular basis to have your dreams come true.  Keep it simple, use a reliable system, deliver value to your tribe and remember above of all else that your job as a marketer is to solve someone’s key problem(s) with an elegant solution.  Having an elegant system and elegant products and services ultimately means that you will not suck at marketing!

Rich Blessings!

Got Tech Skills?

The Mastery Triangle

Greetings Friends!

A couple of posts back I talked about the Mastery Triangle–a visual tool for the skills needed to create a successful business; you can see the post here.  Most business people open up a business because they have a desire for increased personal freedom, better earning possibilities and the ability to make a positive difference in the world.  Michael Gerber, of E-Myth Revisited fame, burst that bubble by explaining that your training/expertise isn’t what will make you a successful entrepreneur.  Not exactly what an excited entrepreneur wants to hear, right?

The foundation of the Mastery Triangle is the place where most of us have a steep learning curve–SEO techniques, social media, blogging, email writing and the tech skills necessary to build landing pages and websites.  All of that might be enough to send a budding entrepreneur running back into the arms of corporate employment…unless they had an ace or two up their sleeves.

While the SEO was definitely a pain in the butt for me–most of the aforementioned necessities weren’t too bad–except for the doggone tech skills.  I am not a complete newb at techie things, but I hadn’t any experience in website building.   Yes, I knew what squeeze pages (aka landing pages) were, I just hadn’t any idea how to build them.  Today I am happy to share with you my ace/tech weapon–Forest Linden.  Forest is a tech whiz and an excellent teacher.  I wanted to learn to do the building of my websites to save costs as well as learn the technical ins and outs of getting products into the hands of my clients with as few frayed nerves as possible–enter my Tech Husband, Forest LInden.

Fortunately for you, Forest is sharing some great free training–and I am honored to be able to share it with you.  The training will only be up for a limited time, so click the link and check it out as soon as you can.

The Mastery Pyramid

The Mastery Pyramid

As many of you probably already know, this week is the first week I will be posting just one blog per week.  The lead in to today was pretty intense, but very fulfilling and I thought I would share with you some of the training I did in last week’s training call.  I want to insure that you have a chance to gain mastery in the areas where you are challenged and become the successful entrepreneur you intend to be, so let’s go!

To start, I’d like you to get a piece of paper and draw a 2” tall triangle on it.  Now go about ¼ of the way down from the tip of your triangle and draw a line so you have a small triangle at the top.  Now, draw two more lines about equidistant from one another so that you have a total of four sections in your triangle.

Starting on the right side of your triangle draw an arrow pointing at the bottom of your pyramid/triangle shape and write the word ‘Mechanics’ next to the arrow.  Go to the opposite side of your triangle and draw a second arrow pointing to the next level up on your triangle; here write the word ‘Mindset’.  Go back to the side of your triangle where you wrote ‘Mechanics’ and here you’re going to draw a third arrow and write ‘Organization’.

And lastly, draw one last arrow at the top of your triangle on the same side as the word ‘Mindset’ and here write the word ‘Expertise’.

You should have a triangle with four sections each labeled (from the top) with arrow and the words Expertise, Organization, Mindset and Mechanics.  We’re going to start with Mechanics; on a scale of 1-10, pick a number that describes your skill in SEO tactics, website building wisdom, copywriting skills, blogging, and Social Media abilities.  If you feel you have mastered these all pretty well—give yourself a 10.  A one would be someone who is really new at all of these things or just feels their skills are sub-par.  Don’t get hung up on the numbers, just give the rating and keep moving.

Let’s take a look at Mindset now.  How well do you manage your emotions?  Do you think about quitting if your event or launch doesn’t go the way you feel it should?  Do you have a tenacious intention for success or do you wobble in your convictions about your abilities to be successful?  If you’re a fierce and determined Entrepreneur—then put down a 10 next to Mindset.  If you wobble or have many thoughts about quitting rather than taking effective action because of fears and doubts you may be a three, a two, or even a one.  Which one are you?

For organization how well do you keep up with your notes, your schedule, your tax information and being timely with your posts?  Are you drowning in information?  That might just be a one, but if you’ve got a pretty good handle on your paperwork and your postings, give yourself an eight, nine or even 10.

Now for Expertise, I suspect most of you bring a lot of power to this particular sector of your Mastery Pyramid.  Whether you’re a coach, an energy healer, someone who owns a store or a restaurant—you probably have got skills; this is where you shine.  This is also where you have little question about your abilities.  So rate yourself and then take a good look at your pyramid.  Can you see the areas where you’re going to need additional growth and understanding?  Great, this is where you want to focus your studies/coaching so that you can grow into the successful Entrepreneur you envision!

As I mentioned earlier, this is just one portion of the training I did last week.  You can catch the replay now online at the LAGirl13 site, for a limited time—and it’s free.  I hope you enjoy it—and do let me know what your thoughts are about what I’ve shared.  I love reading and answering your comments.  And while you are there, don’t forget to sign up for the LAGirl13 Business Ezine—it goes out this week with more powerful and empowering tips for you, the busy, successful Entrepreneur!

Rich Blessings!

Sobering Truths And Leadership

youtube-logo

You have to let it all go Neo.  Fear, doubt, and disbelief ~ Morpheus

Greetings Friends!

Today I was surprised–no shocked, by some unexpected bad news.  I am an avid YouTube viewer and I’ve collected a crew of folks I follow.  It’s an African American, natural hair thing and I won’t bother you with the details, but I clicked onto YouTube only to see a familiar face crying and the words RIP on her video.  I clicked on the video to find out what had happened.  The crying YouTuber named a  young woman, a fellow YouTuber who was well known within the African American natural hair community.  I too watched her videos; in fact, I had just noted her recent Facebook post indicating she would begin her maternity leave in just five short weeks.  I was stunned and saddened and I still am.

Each of us is running a race and we all know how it ends–well we know it will end.  We may not know how or when, but each of us has a limited time here and despite that fact we dawdle, we fail to take action, we make excuses about time, fatigue or money.  But we are also the leaders–whether we know it or not.  People watch us, so whether we actually do our exercise, skip the soda, or fail to show up on the digital page to blog, others are watching.

And more importantly the clock is ticking.

The young woman I spoke of earlier (may she rest in peace) apparently died of a heart attack.  Her new born is in ICU–or was, last I heard.

So, let me ask you, what are you waiting for?  It may never come.  You may never be perfect, but you must assume the reins for your dreams and your tribe and get moving; none of us knows how long we have, so it’s important to remember you are the leader.  Do the work today–now, this moment, because this moment is all you have.  I hope you love what you do enough to move even in the scary moments–and there will be plenty of those if you’re a leader.  Your first blog, your first interview, your first tweet.  You will screw up; get over it and move on.  Patience, perseverance and vision are your best friends.  Your vision will tell you where you are headed, so make sure you’re clear about what your vision is.

Do you have a goal for this month?  How many clients or how many dollars do you intend to earn and by when?  What service do you intend to give in return for fair remuneration?  What will be your reward for doing the work, for there should always be a reward.  It sweetens the pot and makes the goal important in the now.  If you don’t have a goal, don’t worry, pick one now and get moving on it.  It’s not too late to get moving.

If your goal is filling your practice or getting more clients, I’d like to help you.  The teleconference is free and you can register here.  If you’re reading this blog you already have some dream or goal you hope to accomplish; don’t forget it.

The clock is ticking…

Rich Blessings!

Challenging the Successful Entrepreneur Model

If something isn’t a hell yes, it’s a hell no ~ Abraham

Recently I mentioned that I would be moving to a one blog a week format in order to bring you meatier content without filling up your inbox with tons of stuff that doesn’t matter.  I also mentioned that the Fall season is when I start taking stock of things I want to keep in my life and what I’m ready to release…this year I am ready to release a lot.  In that blog I called myself the Life Hacker Super Ninja of Marketing and I really like the title and its underlying meaning.  There is so much in the digital world–in the world period, vying for your attention, your money and your time.  And much like Alice in Wonderland we just pick up any old thing and ingest it–in the hope that it will solve our current problems.  So, I’m wondering, how’s that technique working for ya?

There are millions of business gurus on the internet giving out information to help you achieve the success you crave.  I want you to be successful at creating the life and success of your dreams.  That means you have to be really clear on what that life looks like.  I call BS on the idea that you have to do everything the gurus teach.  I want to suggest that you do the things that assist you in creating a life and a business you love.  For instance, how many times have you visited a website and been offered a freebie?  Now there’s nothing wrong with a freebie–but I want to ask you, how many times did you save it and never really use the information?  It reminds me of something Tony Robbins said years ago, information is potential wisdom–it only becomes wisdom when the information is acted on.  I have dozens of things I’ve downloaded, but most of them aren’t used because I only have so many hours in a day–and I want to live that Super Ninja of Marketing thing.  I want things to be powerful, yet simple; I don’t want you to even know I just rocked your world until you sit back and then have to say, “Wow, now let me take another look at that because that was amazing and I didn’t even see it coming!”

Question what you’re told.  Ask is it relative to you and the people you serve.  Make sure what you’re offering is what your tribe needs and wants.  Call BS on the things that you know are just clutter–ponder deeply rather you really need that latest download, or is it just more stuff.  Remember what the overall dream was and by all means if what you’re being asked to do isn’t a hell yes, remember it’s a hell no.

So, I’m going to change things up a bit.  I’m going to speak to you about some things I think will change your business and I’m going to do it via a teleconference.  You can sign up for it here.  I believe that you can do that thing you love and drop the anchors that are causing you and your business to struggle.  I hope you’re ready for what the evolving Life Hacker Super Ninja of Marketing is bringing your way.

Rich Blessings,

Dee
